Today, TikTok is sharing an update on its efforts to ensure its creators can use AI- generated content (AIGC) safely and responsibly. Moving forward, TikTok will automatically label this content when it’s uploaded from other platforms.
TikTok is working with the Coalition for Content Provenance and Authenticity (C2PA) to do this and is the first video platform to use this technology. The social media platform is also launching new media literacy resources, developed under the guidance of experts such as Mediawise.
Transparency in AI
Despite the many creative possibilities of AI, it can also confuse or mislead viewers if they don’t know the content was generated by AI. Adding an AIGC label can therefore help clarify the context.
TikTok has required creators to label their realistic, AI-generated content for over a year now, and they’ve developed a unique tool to telegram data make it a little easier. It’s been used by over 37 million creators since last fall.
New feature: content references
TikTok is introducing a new feature today called “content references.” This technology, developed by the C2PA, adds extra information to the content of the video. This allows us to immediately recognize and label AIGC. This feature will be available to all users globally in the coming weeks.
